Employee Experience

According to a recent study, experts predict that there will be 36.2 million Americans working remotely by 2025. It’s no wonder, then, that remote workers—both freelancers and full-time hybrid work or remote work employees—are “flocking to coworking spaces.”

And for good reason, as there are myriad benefits of coworking spaces

No, I’m not just getting away from the household chores that loom over you from your home office. The benefits of coworking spaces go well beyond the need for many remote work employees to just “get out of the house.” In fact, coworking spaces can actually help your mental health, and even increase your bottom line.

Here, 5 benefits of coworking spaces for remote work employees.

Coworking spaces can support a better work-life balance

For many remote work employees like me, going to a coworking space can look and feel like going to an office. I leave my house in the morning and return at night, which is a way to signal the start and end of a work day. For those of you who have worked from home, you know how difficult finding that work-life balance can be, even if you spend most of your hours tucked away in a home office.

The ability to go to an actual flexible workspace for your day (and then leave when you’re done) can help ensure you’re setting yourself up for success both professionally and personally.

Coworking spaces help you network with other professionals

After working remotely as both a freelancer and a full-time employee, I have definitely found myself missing the connection with other professionals. And while I typically have a number of Zoom calls during my work week, I find the in-person connection with other people, both inside and outside of my field of work, to be invigorating. But that can be very difficult when you’re a remote employee, beyond asking the guy next to you at Starbucks to watch my computer while I use the restroom.

Coworking spaces offer the opportunity for individuals who often work on their own for long periods of time to experience the “water cooler effect,” and also, expand their own professional knowledge, too, through various hosted events, or even just eating together in the lunchroom.

Coworking spaces are more affordable than renting an office

Depending on the amount of space and time you need, the huge benefit of coworking spaces is the amount of money. And these days, many companies are offering coworking spaces as an employee benefit, so they’re not actually costing you anything, or at least, costing you very little.

Instead of renting an office space for yourself that might end up sitting vacant for a fair amount of time, you can find a coworking space that you pay for only when you need it.

Coworking spaces give you access to meeting spaces and conference rooms

If you’re like me, then there are times that you need a space for in-person meetings, and you’re scrambling to see if a friend can host you in their office. With a coworking space, you often have access to meeting rooms and conference spaces that you can book in advance.

Other benefits of coworking spaces are the quiet recording rooms for a Zoom or podcast where you need a plain background or total silence, which seems nearly impossible to get from your home. Typically, coworking spaces are equipped with televisions and other gadgets that can help give your meeting (or podcast recording) a more professional function and appearance.

Coworking spaces can help Increase productivity

Life is full of distractions and we all do our best to stay on task. But life feels much more distracting when you’re inside your own home, listening to family members outside your office door or seeing the chores that need to be done around your home.

Coworking spaces can help you focus, which can then help you be more productive, so that you have more time to spend outside of work doing the things you love.
