Future of Work

Navan’s acquisition of BoomPop caught my attention. Not just because it brings together two interesting AI-powered platforms, but because it points to a larger shift in how companies think about getting people together.

Navan is a corporate travel and expense platform. BoomPop (now Navan Events) helps companies plan and manage meetings and events, from finding venues and vendors to handling contracts, room blocks, and payments. This acquisition brings those capabilities together under one platform.

On the surface, this might look like a logical expansion of a travel business.

But, I think it’s indicative of something bigger.

The corporate offsite is becoming its own category of workplace infrastructure.

For years, planning a corporate offsite has meant piecing together a number of separate services: booking travel, finding a hotel, sourcing a meeting space, arranging catering, coordinating activities, and managing all the logistics in between.

But for the person organizing the event, these aren’t really separate problems. They’re all part of the same goal: bringing a team together and creating a productive, well-run experience.

That’s what makes the Navan-BoomPop acquisition particularly interesting. It reflects a growing demand for a more integrated way to plan and manage corporate gatherings, from getting people there to creating the environment where the event actually takes place.

We’re seeing that shift at Flexspace AI as well.

Over the past 12 months, bookings for full-day meeting rooms for corporate offsites and events have grown 3X.

That growth points to an opportunity for coworking and flexible workspace operators.

Leadership retreats, planning sessions, workshops, team gatherings, and other corporate events require more than an available meeting room. They require the right setup, technology, catering, breakout space, activities, and sometimes accommodations.

For operators, that creates an opportunity to think beyond selling meeting-room hours.

Instead, they can build a more complete offsite and events offering, packaging the space with the services and amenities companies need to make the day successful. That could mean turnkey packages that include AV, catering, multiple rooms, team-building activities, or preferred hotel and transportation partners.

The more of the offsite experience an operator can simplify and manage, the more valuable the space becomes, which could turn corporate offsites and events from an occasional use of coworking space into a meaningful, higher-value revenue stream.

The Navan-BoomPop acquisition is a signal that the market is moving in this direction. Companies want fewer fragmented pieces and a simpler way to plan the entire experience.

And if what we’re seeing at Flexspace AI is any indication, the demand is already there.

For coworking operators, that growth represents more than additional meeting-room revenue. It’s an opportunity to build a higher-value offering around one of the most important reasons companies still need physical space: bringing people together.
